The All Progressives Congress (APC) has concluded its House of Representatives primary elections nationwide, producing a mix of victories, surprises, and notable setbacks ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Eko Hot News reports that the exercise featured keen contests across constituencies as incumbent lawmakers and new aspirants competed for party tickets.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, secured his return ticket in Zaria, while Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu also emerged successful in his constituency.

Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa clinched victory in Agege Federal Constituency, maintaining his bid for a seat in the National Assembly.

Other successful aspirants include James Faleke, Jimi Benson, and Yusuf Buhari, who emerged as one of the new entrants into federal legislative politics.

The primaries, however, recorded several high-profile losses involving serving lawmakers and political figures across different states.

House Majority Leader Julius Ihonvbere reportedly lost his return bid in Edo State, marking one of the most notable upsets in the exercise.

Several other incumbents in states including Imo, Cross River, Ogun, and Delta also failed to secure party tickets.

Businessman and political aspirant Cubana Chief Priest was also among those who did not secure a nomination.

Reports indicate that while some constituencies experienced orderly processes, others witnessed disagreements over delegate selection and result declarations.

In some areas, aggrieved aspirants raised concerns over alleged irregularities and called for review or cancellation of results.

Party stakeholders described the outcome as a reflection of evolving internal dynamics within the APC.

Analysts noted that the mix of returning lawmakers and new entrants could reshape the composition of the next National Assembly.

They also observed that the results may intensify political competition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Attention is now shifting to other political parties as they prepare to conduct their own primaries across the country.

Observers say the APC primaries have set the tone for a highly competitive electoral cycle.

The party is expected to review the process as it prepares for the next phase of candidate validation and campaign activities.
