Lagos State Government has reinforced its commitment to using fashion and culture as tools for global positioning.

This was highlighted during the Miss Nigeria Beauty and Fashion Fair 2026 held at Eko Hotel and Suites.

It formed part of the Miss Nigeria Patrons and Board Dinner and the Daily Times Young Fashion Designer of the Year Award.
Toke Benson-Awoyinka noted that fashion and the arts play a major role in shaping global perceptions of Nigeria. She described Lagos as a leading hub for creativity and cultural expression in Africa.
She explained that Miss Nigeria has evolved into a platform that promotes leadership and enterprise. Since its inception, it has continued to showcase Nigeria’s identity and talent.

The Commissioner highlighted this year’s theme, “She is Made of More,” as a reflection of the growing influence of Nigerian women. She said women are contributing significantly to the creative economy and global visibility.
She also emphasised Lagos as a fertile ground for emerging talents. Designers are transforming indigenous materials into modern fashion pieces that compete globally.
Represented by Bukola Agbaminoja, the Commissioner stressed the importance of sustainability. She commended initiatives promoting environmentally conscious practices within the industry.
The concept of green fashion, she said, aligns with global trends. It also supports long-term growth and responsible production within the creative sector.

Programmes such as the Miss Nigeria Travelogue and the Beauty and Fashion Fair were highlighted as key platforms. They help promote Nigeria’s cultural assets while boosting tourism and investment.
She encouraged young designers to use creativity as a tool for innovation. According to her, fashion can drive employment and expand Nigeria’s cultural footprint globally.

The Commissioner also commended Rita Dominic-Anosike and the Miss Nigeria Organisation for sustaining the platform’s legacy. Their efforts continue to nurture talent and inspire excellence.
The event concluded with renewed optimism about Lagos’ creative industry. Stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to promoting culture, fashion, and innovation on the global stage.
