The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed that the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Primary Health Centre (SOT PHC) located at Dolphin Estate in Ikoyi remains a fully government-funded health facility.

Authorities stated that the centre continues to operate under the public health system despite its recent reconstruction.

Eko Hot News reports that the clarification was made during a monitoring visit to the facility by the Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Health District III, Monsurat Adeleke.

She explained that the centre was renovated to enhance healthcare delivery and ensure residents in the area have access to quality medical services.

According to Dr. Adeleke, the Lagos State Government carried out the renovation to strengthen access to standard healthcare services for communities within the district. She noted that the facility remains funded by the government and operates as part of the state’s primary healthcare system.

She also disclosed that while several services at the health centre are provided free of charge, other services attract minimal fees that are highly subsidised.

This approach, she said, ensures affordability while maintaining the quality of medical services offered to residents.

Dr. Adeleke explained that health officials discovered that some residents believed the facility had been privatised after the renovation. The misunderstanding, she noted, led to reduced patronage from community members who were unsure about the centre’s operational status.

To address the concerns, officials embarked on the monitoring tour to reaffirm the government’s commitment to providing accessible healthcare. She emphasised that the visit was part of a broader effort to strengthen awareness and encourage residents to utilise the available medical services.

The Permanent Secretary added that the visit to the facility marked the final stop in a comprehensive quarterly monitoring exercise covering 67 primary health centres under Lagos State Health District III.

The exercise was designed to ensure that every facility maintains the required standard of healthcare delivery.

She explained that the monitoring initiative helps the district evaluate service quality across its facilities and confirm that healthcare centres continue to provide reliable services to residents. The team also assesses operations to ensure that the centres remain responsive to the health needs of communities.

Dr. Adeleke further stated that during the monitoring exercise, officials review the price lists of services provided at the facilities.

This process helps maintain transparency and accountability while ensuring that all charges remain within the approved guidelines of the state government.

The initiative, she said, aligns with the development priorities of the Lagos State Government under the leadership of Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu. The administration’s THEMES Plus Agenda places strong emphasis on improved healthcare services and the well-being of residents across the state.

She added that quality healthcare service delivery remains a core priority of the government. As part of ongoing reforms, the state is expanding access to health insurance through the Lagos State Health Management Agency’s scheme known as Lagos State Health Management Agency ILERA EKO programme.

The Permanent Secretary explained that the ILERA EKO scheme is designed to ensure that residents can receive necessary medical care without financial hardship. By expanding enrolment in the programme, the government hopes to strengthen healthcare access for more people across Lagos.

She also noted that the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Primary Health Centre is among the facilities providing services under the ILERA EKO health insurance programme. This allows registered residents to access a range of healthcare services at the centre.

Dr. Adeleke encouraged residents in the community to take advantage of the available healthcare services at the renovated facility. She emphasised that the government remains committed to ensuring that residents receive accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare services.

Health authorities also reaffirmed that monitoring exercises will continue across facilities in the district to maintain high standards of healthcare delivery. These efforts, they noted, are essential to strengthening the primary healthcare system and improving health outcomes for communities across Lagos State.
