The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has intensified safety inspections across major industrial zones in Lagos State as part of efforts to strengthen compliance with safety regulations.

Eko Hot News reports that the agency recently began an extensive on-the-spot compliance tour targeting industrial facilities across key commercial corridors in the state.

The enforcement exercise is aimed at improving adherence to safety standards and ensuring that companies maintain appropriate preparedness measures within their premises.

The Controller General of the service, Margaret Abimbola Adeseye, led a specialised team of officers to inspect facilities located within the Amuwo-Odofin Industrial Layout and the Badagry Expressway corridor.

During the assessment visits, the team evaluated several industrial and commercial establishments to determine their readiness to manage safety risks and protect workers and visitors.

Officials explained that the exercise forms part of the agency’s broader commitment to strengthening oversight within the industrial and commercial sectors.

The inspections focused on important safety benchmarks including the validity of safety documentation and the presence of appropriate insurance coverage.

Other areas reviewed included preparedness plans, functionality of safety equipment, and safe storage arrangements within operational facilities.

Adeseye emphasised that the Lagos State Government is committed to ensuring that organisations comply fully with established safety standards.

She noted that maintaining safe operational environments is essential for protecting lives, investments, and the environment.

The Controller General also expressed concern about the level of compliance observed in some of the inspected facilities.

According to her, while some organisations demonstrated acceptable safety practices, others showed gaps in basic safety requirements.

She highlighted issues such as inadequate storage arrangements, poor ventilation systems, and blocked access routes that may affect safety conditions.

Adeseye advised companies to review their internal safety processes and address the observations raised during the inspection visits.

She added that organisations are expected to work closely with the agency and implement all recommendations provided by the inspection team.

The inspection covered a wide range of facilities across different sectors including logistics operations, manufacturing environments, and temperature-controlled storage facilities.
