The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Civil Service Commission, Bola Agbabiaka, has joined the Lagos State Ministry of Health to commemorate the 2026 edition of World Glaucoma Week with an awareness programme for civil servants.

Eko Hot News reports that the event was organised as part of activities to raise awareness about Glaucoma and promote early detection through regular eye screening.

The awareness campaign was held under the theme “Uniting for a World Glaucoma Free.” The initiative aimed to educate workers on the importance of maintaining good eye health.

Officials explained that glaucoma remains one of the leading causes of vision loss globally. Health experts often stress the importance of early diagnosis in managing the condition effectively.

Speaking during the event, Agbabiaka emphasised the importance of health awareness programmes within the civil service.

He noted that promoting preventive healthcare among workers helps improve productivity and overall well-being in the workplace.

According to the Permanent Secretary, civil servants must prioritise regular medical check-ups, including eye examinations, to detect health conditions early.

He also commended the Ministry of Health for organising the awareness programme and supporting initiatives that promote public health education.

Mazeedat explained that glaucoma often develops gradually and may not present early symptoms.

Because of this, she said regular eye examinations remain one of the most effective ways to detect the condition at an early stage.

She added that early detection can help individuals manage the condition effectively and maintain good vision for a longer period.

The awareness team provided information on common risk factors associated with glaucoma and the importance of routine eye screening.

Participants were also educated on healthy lifestyle habits that support eye health and reduce the risk of vision problems.

The programme encouraged workers to take advantage of available medical services and consult healthcare professionals whenever they notice changes in their vision.
