The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to positioning the state as a global sports hub, with preparations underway to host the 11th edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon on February 14, 2026.
Eko Hot News reports that the 2026 edition will feature a 42-kilometre race on a newly introduced route, starting from ORCA Mall on Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, and passing through sections of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road.
The marathon is designed to further showcase Lagos as the heartbeat of road racing in Africa, while drawing global attention to the iconic Eko Atlantic City and the state’s expanding infrastructure.
Organisers disclosed that over 100,000 runners are expected to participate in both the 42km full marathon and the 10km fun run, making it one of the largest road races on the continent.

The 42km elite race is scheduled to begin at 6:30 a.m. and will officially close at 12:00 p.m., while the 10km race will commence at 9:30 a.m. and also end at noon.
Winners of the elite men’s and women’s 42km race will earn up to $50,000 each, with prize money extending to athletes who finish in the top eight positions.
Nigerian runners in the elite category will also compete for cash rewards, with ₦2 million awarded to first-place finishers and ₦50,000 for lower placements.
For the 10km race, winners in both male and female categories will receive ₦500,000, with prizes available up to the fifth position.
The Lagos City Marathon, a Gold Label race, has been hosted consistently for over a decade, reinforcing Lagos’ reputation as a leading sports destination in Africa and globally.
The event continues to promote active lifestyles, tourism, and international visibility for Lagos State.
