Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday accompanied President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the National Assembly for the formal presentation of the 2026 Federal Government Budget to a joint session of the Senate and House of Representatives.
Eko Hot News reports that the budget presentation marked a major constitutional exercise, outlining the fiscal priorities and policy direction of the Tinubu administration for the coming year.
The session was attended by top government officials, lawmakers, ministers, and heads of key agencies.
In his address to the lawmakers, President Tinubu highlighted the central pillars of the 2026 budget, noting that it is designed to consolidate economic reforms while addressing pressing national challenges.
He stated that defense and national security remain a top priority, given the need to protect lives, property, and the nation’s sovereignty.

The President explained that increased investment in security would support ongoing efforts to combat terrorism, banditry, and other forms of insecurity across the country.
He noted that a secure environment is critical for economic stability, investor confidence, and social cohesion.
Another major focus of the 2026 budget, according to the President, is human capital development. He stressed the importance of sustained investment in education, healthcare, and skills development to empower Nigerians and prepare the workforce for emerging economic opportunities.
President Tinubu also emphasized the completion of ongoing infrastructural projects as a key component of the budget.
He stated that priority would be given to critical road, rail, power, and housing projects that have the potential to stimulate economic activity, create jobs, and improve the quality of life for citizens.
Food security featured prominently in the President’s address, with assurances that the Federal Government would continue to support agriculture through targeted interventions, improved access to inputs, and policies aimed at boosting local production.
He noted that strengthening food systems is essential to reducing inflationary pressures and ensuring affordable food for households.
The 2026 Federal Government budget places strong emphasis on economic responsibility and sustainable growth.
The President said fiscal discipline, prudent spending, and efficient revenue generation would guide budget implementation, as the government seeks to balance development needs with long-term economic stability.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s presence at the National Assembly underscored the importance of collaboration between the Federal Government and state governments in driving national development.
Observers noted that Lagos State, as Nigeria’s economic hub, plays a critical role in the success of federal economic and infrastructure policies.
Lawmakers are expected to commence detailed scrutiny of the budget proposal in the coming weeks, engaging relevant ministries, departments, and agencies during committee sessions.
The National Assembly will review the estimates with a view to ensuring alignment with national development goals and the welfare of Nigerians.
The presentation of the 2026 budget signals the administration’s intent to deepen reforms, strengthen governance, and deliver measurable improvements in security, infrastructure, and social services. Nigerians will be watching closely as the legislative process unfolds and implementation begins.
