Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has been selected for the 2026 Global Transformation and Good Governance Prize by the Millennium Excellence Award USA.
Eko Hot News reports that the honour was announced by the Millennium Excellence Foundation (MEF), which said the governor was chosen after a detailed assessment of his administration’s achievements and the development recorded across Lagos State.
According to the Foundation, the selection recognized Sanwo-Olu’s leadership and the transformation of Lagos under his administration.
The Board of Directors described the prize as one of the most prestigious honours presented under the Foundation’s platform.
The award will be presented under the royal patronage of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene of Kumasi.
The Asantehene is expected to personally present the honour to Governor Sanwo-Olu alongside Her Royal Highness Lady Julia, Queen Consort.
The award ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, August 29, 2026.
The event will begin with a red-carpet session at 2:30 p.m., ahead of the main activities.
The Millennium Excellence Awards USA celebrates individuals of African heritage and global contributors who have recorded notable achievements in different fields.
These areas include public service, business, science, arts and philanthropy.
Governor Sanwo-Olu’s recognition places his administration among those being acknowledged for contributions to governance and development.

Former Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama has also been recognized among past laureates.
