Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, has encouraged public servants to prioritise their health by embracing regular medical check-ups for the early detection and prevention of illnesses.

Eko Hot News reports that Agoro gave the advice during the August edition of the monthly Walk for Fitness Exercise held at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja.

The Head of Service said maintaining good health is essential for improved productivity and effective public service delivery across Lagos State.

He explained that a healthy workforce remains one of the key drivers of efficient governance and quality service to residents.

According to Agoro, public servants should make regular medical examinations a priority to help identify health conditions before they become serious.

He stressed that safeguarding personal health is a shared responsibility that benefits both employees and the institutions they serve.

The Head of Service noted that preventive healthcare remains one of the most effective ways to promote long-term wellness and reduce health-related challenges.

He urged workers to adopt healthy lifestyles that support physical fitness and overall wellbeing.

Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary, Public Service Office, Mrs. Sunkanmi Oyegbola, commended public servants for their consistent participation in the monthly fitness programme.

She described the exercise as an important initiative that promotes healthier living and encourages staff to remain physically active.

Oyegbola also advised participants to maintain good personal hygiene and embrace healthy daily habits that improve their quality of life.

She noted that regular exercise and proper nutrition contribute significantly to better physical and mental health.

Earlier, a Health Educator from the Lagos State Ministry of Health, Mrs. Adefunke Amodu, delivered a health talk on the importance of preventive healthcare.

She encouraged public servants to undergo routine medical examinations and remain informed about their health status.

Mrs. Amodu particularly emphasised the importance of hepatitis screening, describing the disease as a viral infection that primarily affects the liver.

She explained that early diagnosis allows individuals to receive timely medical care and appropriate treatment where necessary.

The health educator also advised participants to avoid behaviours that may expose them to health risks.

She encouraged the use of safe and hygienic healthcare practices while advising against contact with unsterilised medical equipment and sharp objects.

Mrs. Amodu further urged public servants to adopt healthy eating habits by consuming balanced meals, fruits and vegetables.

She also recommended adequate daily water intake as part of a healthy lifestyle.

In addition, she advised participants to avoid excessive alcohol consumption and maintain healthy personal habits that support overall wellbeing.

The monthly Walk for Fitness Exercise forms part of the Lagos State Government’s broader strategy to promote healthy living within the public service.

The initiative provides an opportunity for workers to participate in physical activities while receiving valuable health education from medical professionals.

Officials said the programme also strengthens awareness of preventive healthcare and encourages healthy lifestyle choices among employees.

Participants expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting that it motivates them to remain active and pay closer attention to their health.

Many described the programme as a practical way of combining fitness, health education and employee wellness.

The Lagos State Government reaffirmed its commitment to initiatives that promote the wellbeing of public servants and improve workplace productivity.

It noted that investing in employee health remains an important part of building a motivated, efficient and resilient public service.

As the monthly fitness programme continues, government officials encouraged more public servants to participate actively and embrace healthier lifestyles.

They expressed confidence that sustained wellness initiatives will contribute to improved service delivery and a healthier workforce across Lagos State.
