The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has intensified waste evacuation operations across key parts of Lagos State as part of renewed efforts to promote environmental cleanliness and improve public health.
Eko Hot News reports that the LAWMA Intervention Team carried out extensive waste evacuation exercises along Meiran Expressway, Coconut Bus Stop, Iyana Ekoro, Ajasa Command Road and several other strategic locations across the state.
The large-scale sanitation exercise forms part of the agency’s ongoing commitment to maintaining cleaner roads, healthier communities and a more sustainable urban environment.
Officials said the intervention was designed to remove accumulated waste from major roads and public spaces while improving the overall appearance of affected areas.
Residents and motorists along the operation routes witnessed LAWMA personnel working with waste evacuation trucks and sanitation equipment to clear refuse from roadsides and other public locations.
The exercise aimed to restore environmental order and prevent waste from obstructing drainage channels, particularly during the rainy season.
LAWMA noted that regular waste evacuation remains a key component of its environmental management strategy across Lagos.
The authority explained that prompt removal of refuse helps reduce environmental pollution, supports public health and contributes to safer communities.
Officials added that clean surroundings also improve traffic movement, enhance the city’s image and create healthier living conditions for residents.
The intervention covered several high-traffic corridors where waste accumulation had become a concern due to population growth and increased commercial activities.
According to LAWMA, routine sanitation operations will continue across different parts of Lagos to ensure roads and public spaces remain clean and accessible.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a responsive waste management system capable of meeting the demands of Africa’s fastest-growing megacity.
LAWMA also urged residents, traders and business owners to support government efforts by disposing of waste responsibly through approved channels.
The authority advised members of the public to patronise only licensed Private Sector Participants (PSPs) for domestic waste collection.
Residents were reminded that indiscriminate disposal of refuse on roads, medians, canals and drainage channels undermines environmental sustainability and contributes to flooding during periods of heavy rainfall.
LAWMA encouraged Lagosians to embrace proper waste management practices as a shared responsibility that benefits every community.
Environmental experts have consistently maintained that effective waste collection and disposal remain critical to preventing environmental degradation in urban centres.
They also emphasise that cleaner surroundings improve public health, reduce pollution and contribute to climate resilience.
The Lagos State Government has continued to invest in modern waste management infrastructure, environmental enforcement and public awareness campaigns to strengthen sanitation across the state.
These initiatives align with the state’s broader commitment to building a cleaner, healthier and more environmentally sustainable Lagos.
LAWMA said its intervention teams will sustain routine monitoring and emergency sanitation operations in areas requiring immediate attention.
The authority also pledged to respond promptly to reports of illegal refuse dumps and environmental infractions across the state.
Residents were encouraged to report environmental challenges through the appropriate government channels to support timely intervention.
The agency stressed that collaboration between government and the public remains essential to achieving lasting environmental cleanliness.
LAWMA reaffirmed that maintaining a clean Lagos requires continuous commitment from both government institutions and residents.
With sustained waste evacuation, improved environmental awareness and responsible waste disposal practices, the authority expressed confidence that Lagos will continue making progress toward becoming one of Africa’s cleanest and healthiest cities.
