The Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture has intensified efforts to promote cultural heritage and community-based tourism through strategic engagement with Apapa Local Government and the Ojora Palace.
Eko Hot News reports that the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila, led a management delegation on a stakeholder visit aimed at unlocking tourism potential within Apapa and surrounding communities.
The delegation was received at the Apapa Local Government Secretariat by the Executive Chairman, Hon. Idowu Adejumoke Senbanjo, alongside senior council officials.
Discussions focused on developing Apapa’s tourism assets, including its waterfront locations, historical landmarks, and cultural heritage sites.
Mrs. Oyekan-Ismaila reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with local councils to drive tourism growth across Lagos State.
She noted that collaboration remains essential in creating opportunities for investment, heritage preservation, and community development.
According to her, sustainable tourism thrives on active participation from local stakeholders and host communities.
She explained that promoting heritage destinations would enhance visitor experience and attract both domestic and international tourists.
The Permanent Secretary added that such initiatives would also contribute to economic growth and job creation at the community level.
Hon. Senbanjo commended the Ministry for its initiative and pledged the support of Apapa Local Government.
He assured that the Council would continue to work with relevant authorities to promote tourism and cultural development in the area.
The delegation also visited the Ojora Palace for a courtesy engagement with His Royal Majesty, Oba AbdulFatai Aremu Oyegbemi, the Ojora of Ijora and Iganmu.
The palace visit formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen relationships with traditional institutions in the preservation of cultural heritage.
Discussions at the palace highlighted the importance of traditional rulers in safeguarding indigenous culture and promoting tourism.
Mrs. Oyekan-Ismaila praised the Ojora-in-Council for its continued commitment to cultural preservation and community development.
She noted that traditional institutions remain key partners in advancing tourism and protecting Lagos’ cultural identity.
Oba Oyegbemi welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation for the visit.
He reaffirmed his support for initiatives aimed at promoting tourism, arts, and cultural heritage across Lagos State.
The monarch emphasized the importance of preserving traditions while embracing development opportunities that benefit local communities.
