President Donald Trump has reignited debate over his political future after making remarks that appeared to hint at remaining in office beyond the end of his second term.
Eko Hot News reports that Trump made the comments while concluding his speech at the White House Congressional Ball, where his closing remarks suggested the possibility of an extended presidency.
The president has on several occasions expressed interest in staying in power beyond his current term, previously telling reporters that he would “love” to serve a third term.

Under the United States Constitution, such a move would directly conflict with the 22nd Amendment, which limits presidents to two elected terms in office.
Despite the constitutional barrier, signals from Trump’s political circle have continued to fuel speculation about long-term plans beyond 2028.
In April, Trump’s official merchandise store began selling “Trump 2028” hats, encouraging supporters to “make a statement” by purchasing and wearing them.
The merchandise rollout further intensified public discussion about whether Trump and his allies are testing the waters for a future constitutional challenge.
Several figures close to Trump have openly discussed the possibility of bypassing the 22nd Amendment through legal or political maneuvers.
Republican Senator Lindsey Graham and former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon have both suggested that pathways exist to extend Trump’s time in power.
In November, Bannon revealed that he had consulted with what he described as “one of the top constitutional lawyers” in the United States about options for a third Trump term.
Bannon claimed Trump told him that the 22nd Amendment was not airtight, asserting that “you can drive a Mack truck through” the constitutional restriction.
He later told The Economist that there were “many different alternatives” for overcoming the amendment, adding that a plan would be revealed at the appropriate time.
Bannon further claimed that Trump would still be president in 2028, though no official roadmap has been presented publicly.
Other influential voices in Trump’s orbit have floated alternative scenarios to maintain MAGA influence in the White House.
Former Department of Government Efficiency head Elon Musk has publicly supported continued MAGA leadership, though he suggested Vice President JD Vance as a possible successor in 2028.
Recent polling shows Vance currently leading other potential Republican contenders for 2028, although his advantage has begun to narrow.
Public opinion on a third Trump term remains sharply divided, even among his supporters.
A poll released earlier this month found that 43 percent of voters who backed Trump in 2024 support the idea of him running again in 2028.
However, 45 percent of the same group oppose a third-term bid, highlighting internal divisions within Trump’s base.
Among the general American population, support for a third Trump term is significantly lower, with only 21 percent in favor.
Legal experts continue to stress that any attempt to extend a presidency beyond two terms would face major constitutional, political, and judicial hurdles.
Still, Trump’s remarks and the actions of his allies have ensured that the debate over term limits and executive power remains firmly in the national spotlight.
