President Donald Trump has described Rep. Jasmine Crockett’s decision to run for Senate in Texas as “a gift to Republicans,” saying he does not believe she can win the statewide race.
Eko Hot News reports that Trump made the remarks while speaking to journalists at the Wilkes-Barre Scranton International Airport in Pennsylvania. He reacted to Crockett’s announcement that she would challenge Sen. John Cornyn in the 2026 election.

Trump dismissed Crockett as “a low-IQ person,” adding that he could not imagine her winning the Senate seat. He said she might secure the Democratic nomination but argued her candidacy benefits the Republican Party.
He further criticised her performance in Congress, saying he was surprised she had become a politician. Crockett has represented Texas’s 30th congressional district since 2023.

Crockett, known as a progressive and outspoken Trump critic, formally filed her Senate paperwork on Monday. She said her campaign would directly challenge Trump, accusing Cornyn of failing to stand up to him.
She told supporters that her decision to enter the race was driven by polling trends and the need for stronger leadership. Crockett said she chose not to remain in the House because the current political moment was, in her words, “life or death.”
Despite Texas being a Republican stronghold where Democrats have not won statewide office in more than 30 years, Crockett expressed confidence that she could flip the seat.
She argued that Texas voters are ready for change and that her data review showed her candidacy was the strongest path for Democrats in 2026.
Her entry into the race came shortly after former Rep. Colin Allred withdrew from the Senate contest to return to the House. State Rep. James Talarico remains in the Democratic primary.
On the Republican side, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and U.S. Rep. Wesley Hunt are challenging Cornyn for the GOP nomination.
