President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Lagos for Europe as part of his official engagements ahead of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Summit, scheduled to hold in the United Arab Emirates in early January.
Eko Hot News reports that the president’s trip is connected to Nigeria’s continued participation in global conversations on sustainability, climate action, and economic resilience, with the summit expected to attract world leaders, policymakers, and business executives.

The Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week Summit will focus on advancing innovation, sustainable finance, clean energy, and inclusive growth under the theme “The Nexus of Next: All Systems Go.” Nigeria’s presence at the event underscores its commitment to aligning national development strategies with global sustainability goals.
A statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed that President Tinubu will take part in high-level sessions addressing climate change, energy transition, and economic development, areas considered critical to Nigeria’s long-term growth agenda.
The presidency noted that the summit provides a platform for Nigeria to engage international partners, attract investment, and showcase ongoing reforms aimed at improving environmental governance and economic stability.
Before departing Lagos, President Tinubu had returned from an official tour of Borno and Bauchi states, where he commissioned several infrastructure and development projects executed by the federal and state governments.
The projects commissioned during the tour were described as part of the administration’s broader agenda to strengthen regional development, improve public infrastructure, and stimulate economic activities across the country.
President Tinubu left the country through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, where he was seen off by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, senior government officials, and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Sources within the presidency disclosed that the president’s engagement in Europe will also involve strategic meetings with international stakeholders ahead of the summit, aimed at strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
Analysts say Nigeria’s participation in the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Summit reflects the federal government’s intention to position the country as an active player in global sustainability discussions while pursuing policies that support energy diversification and climate resilience.
The president is expected to return to Nigeria after the conclusion of the summit, rounding off a year marked by intense diplomatic activities and policy engagements focused on economic reform and international collaboration.
