President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on the successful hosting of the 9th edition of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), held in Lagos from January 7 to 11, 2026.

President Tinubu also commended Nigerian artistes who emerged victorious at the awards, describing their achievements as clear evidence of Nigeria’s growing influence and global recognition in music and the creative industry.
He noted that Lagos once again demonstrated its organisational strength, safety standards, and hospitality by providing a vibrant and welcoming environment for delegates, artistes, and guests from across the continent.

The President highlighted that Nigerian artistes dominated the 9th AFRIMA ceremony. Rema won Artiste of the Year, Best Male Artiste in Western Africa, and Best African RnB & Soul, while Burna Boy clinched Album of the Year.
Shallipopi emerged with Song of the Year and Best African Collaboration alongside Burna Boy. Phyno won Best African Hip-Hop, Qing Madi was named Most Promising Artiste, and Yemi Alade secured Best Soundtrack.
Other notable winners included Chella, who received African Fans’ Favourite, while music veterans Kenny Ogungbe and Dayo Adeneye were honoured with the AFRIMA Legendary Award.
President Tinubu said the success of Nigerian artistes reflects years of dedication, creativity, and consistency, adding that Nigerian music continues to serve as a powerful cultural voice across Africa and beyond.

He stressed that platforms such as AFRIMA provide African talents with opportunities to compete globally while projecting the continent’s rich cultural identity.
The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment and the development of Nigeria’s creative economy, citing music, film, fashion, and culture as key drivers of job creation, tourism, and economic growth.
He also referenced Lagos’ recent hosting of major global events, including the E1 Powerboat Race and GITEX, as proof of the state’s growing international relevance.
AFRIMA, founded in 2014 in partnership with the African Union Commission, attracted over 1,216 participants from at least 48 African countries, underlining its continental significance.
