Southern Governors from across Nigeria converged in Ogun State for a high-level meeting hosted jointly with the Southern Nigeria Traditional Rulers Council. The gathering focused on strengthening security, enhancing governance, and advancing regional development across the southern states.
Eko Hot News reports that the governors unanimously passed a Vote of Confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, acknowledging his efforts in stabilising the national economy and overseeing major infrastructure projects that impact the region. The leaders also reiterated their long-standing support for the principle of a Southern presidency, affirming unity and continuity in regional cooperation.

The forum expressed deep condolences regarding recent national security losses and commended the security agencies for their ongoing commitment despite operational challenges. The governors highlighted that ensuring safety and stability remains a top priority for the region.
The establishment of a zonal security fund, a cooperative financial instrument to promote cooperative security measures among southern states, was one of the meeting’s main outcomes. Given their grassroots influence and historical roles in maintaining peace, the governors also decided to strengthen intelligence sharing, expand the capabilities of community-based security groups, and establish more formal structures for involving traditional rulers in security management.

The meeting further addressed critical issues such as illegal mining, land-related conflicts, and cross-border criminal activities. The governors agreed that coordinated action is required to curb these threats, which have increasingly disrupted communities and posed risks to economic stability.
The leaders pledged a united front in tackling insecurity, noting that sustainable peace is crucial for economic growth, attracting foreign investment, and enhancing the quality of life for citizens. They emphasised that collaboration between elected leaders and traditional institutions is vital in ensuring lasting solutions.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State stated that the collective decisions reflect their shared commitment to building a safer, more prosperous, and more integrated South. He assured citizens that the region remains firmly aligned in its pursuit of peace, cooperation, and progress.
The forum concluded with a renewed pledge to continue engaging the Federal Government and relevant stakeholders in advancing the interests of the Southern region and promoting unity across Nigeria.
