Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has expressed deep sadness over the fire outbreak that occurred at the Great Nigeria House, describing the incident as painful and distressing.
Eko Hot News reports that the Governor visited Balogun Market area to carry out an on-the-spot assessment of the incident, saying that the devastation witnessed could not be fully captured in written reports.
Governor Sanwo-Olu stated that his thoughts and prayers are with traders, occupants, and families affected by the inferno, noting that the incident has caused significant emotional and economic loss.
He commended the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, emergency responders, and other relevant agencies for their swift response and professionalism in bringing the fire under control.
According to the Governor, the courage and dedication of firefighters and emergency personnel prevented the fire from spreading further and helped save lives during the incident.

Sanwo-Olu assured victims that the state government would continue to assess the situation thoroughly and provide necessary support to those impacted by the disaster.
He emphasised that Lagos has a history of resilience in the face of adversity and called on residents to remain united and supportive during the recovery process.
The Governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening emergency response systems and improving safety measures across markets and commercial centres in the state.
He also urged traders and residents to adhere strictly to safety guidelines to prevent future occurrences, stressing the importance of collective responsibility in safeguarding lives and property.
Sanwo-Olu concluded by expressing confidence that Lagos would overcome the challenge, assuring victims that the government would not abandon them in their moment of need.
