Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has commissioned new electrification projects across communities in the Badagry axis, reaffirming the government’s commitment to improving electricity supply in border communities.
Eko Hot News reports that the newly inaugurated projects include three High Capacity Tower Crossings, rehabilitated 33KV distribution lines along the Gaji-Seme and Owode-Apa corridors, as well as the connection of 51 transformer substations.
The projects are part of the Lagos State Government’s strategic intervention aimed at addressing long-standing electricity challenges in the Badagry area and improving power distribution across surrounding communities.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, represented at the commissioning by the Deputy Governor, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, explained that the project represents more than the installation of infrastructure.
According to him, the initiative is designed to restore confidence among residents, expand economic opportunities and improve daily life in communities that have awaited improved electricity supply.
He noted that the electrification projects align with the administration’s THEMES Plus Agenda, particularly its focus on expanding energy access and strengthening infrastructure across the state.
The Governor also highlighted the role of the recently inaugurated Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission in supporting improved electricity management within the state.
He explained that the regulatory body will help Lagos strengthen its ability to regulate and expand electricity supply more effectively.

Sanwo-Olu noted that improved power supply would support economic activities within the affected communities.
He said traders would be able to extend business hours, artisans and small manufacturers would increase productivity, while schools and health facilities would operate more efficiently.
According to the Governor, stable electricity will also enhance the quality of life for families across the Badagry axis.
The projects are expected to strengthen power distribution across the Gbaji–Seme and Owode–Apa corridors.
Thousands of homes, businesses and shops in the communities are expected to benefit from the improved electricity supply.
Sanwo-Olu emphasised the importance of continued infrastructure development in border communities such as Badagry.

He described Badagry as a historic town with strong cultural significance and economic importance within Lagos State.
The Governor also noted that the town serves as an important gateway connecting Nigeria to the Republic of Benin and other parts of the West African region.
Because of this strategic location, he said sustained investment in infrastructure will help support cross-border trade, commerce and enterprise.
Sanwo-Olu congratulated residents of Gbaji, Seme, Owode and Apa on the completion of the projects.
He encouraged community members to protect the infrastructure and ensure that it continues to serve future generations.

In his goodwill message, the Chairman of the Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Energy and Mineral Resources, Sabur Akanbi Oluwa, commended the state government for its continued investment in energy infrastructure.
He described the electrification initiative as a strong demonstration of the government’s commitment to expanding reliable electricity access and supporting sustainable development across communities in Lagos State.
