The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Prosperity Assembly, Okeafa, Isolo, has organised a community outreach tagged “Jesus Market,” distributing free food items and household essentials to residents of the area.
Eko Hot News reports that the outreach, held at the church premises on Sunday, attracted community members who benefited from the free distribution aimed at easing economic hardship and demonstrating Christian love through practical support.
Speaking during the event, Pastor Bisi Folahan, the Resident Pastor of the church, said the initiative was designed to meet the immediate needs of families, especially amid rising living costs. He explained that, unlike the first edition, where items were sold at highly subsidised rates, the second edition focused mainly on free distribution.
Pastor Folahan noted that each family received food packages containing essential staples such as rice, beans, and garri. He said the gesture reflects the church’s belief that Jesus Christ came as a gift to humanity, and believers must share freely with others.
He disclosed that the programme was made possible through the support of corporate organisations, foundations, and individual church members who contributed resources running into millions of naira.
According to him, the church remains committed to sustaining the outreach despite economic challenges, adding that the “Jesus Market” will be organised twice every year as part of RCCG Prosperity Assembly’s social responsibility efforts.
The Minister in charge of Welfare, Pastor Mercy Oloworoporoku, emphasised that the outreach was open to everyone in the community, regardless of religious affiliation. She said the aim was to spread joy, hope, and relief to residents during a period of financial pressure.
She explained that the programme aligns with the church’s mandate to care for the less privileged and support vulnerable households within its host community.
Assistant Pastor Seun Folahan also stressed the importance of generosity, noting that the season calls for compassion and kindness toward others, especially those struggling to meet basic needs.
The Head of the Welfare Department, Mrs. Faith Okoduwa-Ilembiluan, revealed that about 120 Christmas food boxes were distributed during the outreach, while additional food items were supplied through a non-governmental organisation to extend the reach of the programme.
She added that future editions of the “Jesus Market” may include expanded interventions such as medical outreach programmes, educational support, and scholarships for indigent children.
Some beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the church for the timely intervention. One of them, Ms. Victoria Ernest, described the outreach as impactful and helpful, saying the food items would go a long way in supporting her family.
She thanked the church leadership and members for their generosity and concern for the welfare of the community.
The “Jesus Market” initiative further underscores RCCG Prosperity Assembly’s commitment to community development, social welfare, and faith-based humanitarian support in Lagos.
