IGP Egbetokun is set to meet protesting retired officers over pension demands.

Eko Hot News reports that the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has promised to personally engage with retired police officers protesting over poor retirement benefits.

The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Command conveyed the assurance of the IGP hours after  2023 Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, and other activists led retired police officers in protest in Abuja, the nation’s capital, on Monday, July 21, 2025.

The protest is to demand improved welfare for serving and retired personnel of the Nigeria Police Force.

The Nigeria Police Force said in a post on its official X handle on Monday that the FCT commissioner has met with the protesting retirees.

According to the statement, arrangements have been made for the IGP to meet with them at the Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

The statement noted that some individuals with ulterior motives attempted to hijack the protest.
