The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdurosheed Akanbi, has advised President Bola Tinubu not to be intimidated by external pressures, including former U.S. President Donald Trump, but to remain focused and place his trust in God. The monarch made the statement on Sunday evening following the annual Olodumare Festival in Iwo.
Oba Akanbi emphasized that success comes from giving glory to God, urging the president to deepen his devotion. “You will be successful if you give all glory to God Almighty. You need to give more glory to God than you have been doing. If we can all return to God, there is nothing to fear,” the Oluwo stated.
On the matter of international tensions and global powers, the monarch said, “There is no reason to fear Trump. If you submit your concerns to God, who created all, including Trump, there is no reason for fear. Iwo has remained untouched by war due to its community’s steadfast devotion to God.”
Oba Akanbi further highlighted Nigeria’s role on the African continent, asserting that the country is “chosen to carry the glory of Africa.” He told the president, “Tinubu should not fear any nuclear power or Trump himself. Even America, if you check their slogan, it is ‘In God We Trust.’ That is why they can’t be ravaged by war. If Nigeria can do the same, no war can overpower us.”

The monarch repeatedly stressed that the president’s focus should be on God rather than worldly powers. “He does not need to fear nuclear power; he should fear God. That is why Iwo has never been ravaged by war,” he said.
Speaking on the significance of the Olodumare Festival this year, Oba Akanbi said the celebration serves to pray for new beginnings and to cleanse the land from generational curses. “All traditional rulers must know that their palaces belong to the unquestionable God; they should be representatives of God on earth and not serve deities. It is only God that appoints kings,” he said.
He added, “We have handed over Iwo kingdom to God Almighty. Every year He has been protecting and providing for us. This is the only land that has never been ravaged by war. We are using this event to cleanse the land from generational curses. I am a king chosen by God to champion this prayer.”
Oba Akanbi concluded by urging Yoruba monarchs to continually extol God, reminding them that it is God who owns the palaces and appoints kings.
