The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) has held a strategic engagement with the Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission (LASWARCO) to deepen policy alignment and improve water and sanitation governance.
Eko Hot News reports that the LASWARCO delegation, led by Executive Secretary Olubukola Adeyemo, visited LSWMO headquarters in Ikeja and was received by General Manager Adefemi Afolabi and the agency’s management team.
The meeting focused on enhancing regulatory collaboration and policy coherence between the two agencies. Engr. Afolabi emphasised that integrated water supply and wastewater management are crucial for comprehensive oversight, compliance monitoring, and sustainable sanitation practices across Lagos.

He further highlighted the importance of strategic investments in wastewater infrastructure, expanding treatment capacity, and strengthening regulatory enforcement to position Lagos as a model for water and sanitation management in Nigeria.
Mrs Adeyemo noted that a predictable regulatory environment and strong institutional coordination are vital for attracting investment and promoting sector growth. She stressed that close collaboration with LSWMO would streamline compliance processes and ensure operators meet defined quality and environmental standards.

The Executive Secretary added that unified operational approaches would eliminate service gaps, improve compliance, and enhance public safety and environmental sustainability. She emphasised institutionalising collaboration through harmonised guidelines and coordinated stakeholder engagement to strengthen public trust in water services.
Both agencies discussed advancing the implementation of Lagos State’s Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Policy and improving service delivery across the water and wastewater value chain.

Deliberations included harmonising regulatory standards, aligning enforcement protocols, and establishing data-sharing mechanisms to support evidence-based planning and decision-making.
The session concluded with a shared commitment to sustained inter-agency consultations, capacity-building initiatives, and the development of joint action plans to reinforce sustainable water and sanitation systems in Lagos.
This engagement reflects Lagos State Government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen governance, enhance service delivery, and promote environmental sustainability in the water and sanitation sector.
