The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) has commenced a three-day Strategic Residential Retreat themed “Advancing Safe Wastewater Services for a Sustainable Lagos” at Hotel Inn, Oniru, Victoria Island.

Eko Hot News reports that the retreat is focused on strengthening policy direction, institutional alignment and service performance to enhance wastewater governance across Lagos State.

The retreat was declared open by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, who emphasised LSWMO’s evolving mandate in translating environmental policies into measurable outcomes that safeguard lives and ecosystems.

In his welcome address, the General Manager, Engr. Adefemi Afolabi reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to aligning its operational strategies with state environmental laws and sustainability goals.

Permanent Secretary, Office of Drainage Services and Water Resources, Engr. Mahmood Adegbite highlighted the need for policy coherence, regulatory compliance and stronger inter-agency collaboration.

Goodwill messages were delivered by key stakeholders, including Hon. Shabi Rasheed Adebola and Hon. Olanrewaju Suleiman Afinni, alongside Special Advisers Engr. Olakunle Rotimi Akodu and Hon. Ibrahim Babajide Obanikoro.

Further support came from the Permanent Secretary, Office of Environmental Services, Dr Omobolaji Gaji, and the Executive Secretary of Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWARCO), Mrs Bukola Adeyemo.

Technical sessions featured presentations on the Wastewater Information Management System (WIMS) Online Payment Platform, implementation of LSWMO’s Strategic Action Plan and a KPI evaluation framework to improve accountability.

The retreat concluded with departmental presentations of the 2026 Operational Plan, outlining a results-driven roadmap for sustainable wastewater management in Lagos.
