The Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) has unveiled a new community-driven programme designed to tackle cultism, drug abuse, youth violence and other forms of crime across Lagos State.
Eko Hot News reports that the initiative is structured to complement law enforcement efforts by addressing the social roots of insecurity. The programme focuses on grassroots engagement, preventive education and sustained community participation.
Speaking on the development, LSSTF Chairman, Femi Pedro, reiterated the Fund’s commitment to strengthening public safety through collaborative strategies. He noted that sustainable security requires collective responsibility beyond security agencies.

Pedro explained that the campaign will mobilise residents, community leaders, youth groups and civil society organisations. He stressed that tackling cultism and drug abuse demands coordinated action at neighbourhood level.
Also addressing stakeholders, the Executive Secretary of LSSTF, Abdulrazaq Balogun, stated that lasting security cannot rely solely on law enforcement. He said preventive and value-based interventions are essential in reshaping attitudes and behaviours among young people.
Balogun disclosed that the campaign will feature community walks aimed at raising awareness against cultism and substance abuse. He added that value reorientation sessions will form a core component of the programme.

According to him, the initiative seeks to build stronger relationships between residents and security stakeholders. He emphasized that early engagement and awareness can significantly reduce recruitment into violent groups.
The LSSTF boss further noted that drug abuse remains a major driver of criminal behaviour among youths. He said addressing addiction and promoting positive alternatives will help curb violence and antisocial conduct.
The programme will also involve partnerships with schools, religious institutions and local associations. Organisers believe that consistent advocacy within these platforms will amplify the campaign’s impact.
Security analysts have long argued that crime prevention must combine enforcement with social intervention. The LSSTF initiative reflects this integrated approach by targeting both symptoms and underlying causes.

Residents have welcomed the move, expressing optimism that community ownership will strengthen security outcomes. Many believe that empowering youths with the right values and guidance will reduce vulnerability to cult-related activities.
The Lagos State Government has repeatedly emphasised that public safety remains a top priority. Through funding, logistics support and strategic initiatives, LSSTF continues to support security agencies and preventive programmes.
Officials say the new drive will be rolled out in phases across local government areas. Monitoring and evaluation mechanisms are expected to track progress and ensure accountability.
The Fund reaffirmed its determination to sustain partnerships that promote peace and social stability. It urged residents to actively participate and support efforts to build safer communities.
