Under the Light Up Health initiative, Ketu Primary Healthcare Centre in Agboyi-Ketu, Lagos, now has a state-of-the-art solar power system by JMG Limited, ensuring uninterrupted healthcare services.
Eko Hot News reports that the newly installed solar system at Ketu PHC is a sophisticated hybrid setup. It includes a 10kW hybrid inverter, 18 units of high-efficiency 570W N-Type solar panels, giving a total generation capacity of 10.35kWp, and a 20.48kWh Lithium-ion battery energy storage system. This configuration allows the facility to store and utilise solar energy efficiently, providing a dependable backup during power outages. The intelligent system ensures that critical medical equipment functions optimally, staff can deliver uninterrupted services, and patients receive consistent care, even during electricity interruptions that have historically disrupted operations at primary healthcare centres.
The official commissioning ceremony brought together a wide range of dignitaries, government officials, traditional leaders, and stakeholders in both the healthcare and energy sectors. Dr Dayo Lajide, Permanent Secretary of Health District II, described the project as “a vital step toward sustainable healthcare infrastructure and a reflection of the government’s commitment to quality service delivery.” She expressed her appreciation to JMG Limited for supporting the state government’s vision for a resilient and efficient health system and emphasised the importance of proper usage and maintenance of the solar system to guarantee long-term sustainability.
Other notable attendees included Hon. Adetola Abubakar, Executive Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA; HRM, Oba (Dr) Isiaka Adio Oyero Balogun, Oba of Ketu Kosofe Land; Otunba Francis Meshioye, Executive Director of JMG Limited and President of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria; Mr Rabih Jammal, Group General Manager of JMG Limited; Hon. Yomi Ganiu, Vice Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA; and Mr Hassan Sanuth, Director of Sanitation Services, Lagos State Ministry of Environment. Traditional leaders, community members, and staff of Health District II were also present, highlighting the collaborative effort and community support behind the project.
The Light Up Health initiative is a clear demonstration of Lagos State’s commitment to modernising Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) and integrating renewable energy solutions into essential public services. By incorporating solar power, the initiative not only addresses the challenge of inconsistent electricity supply but also promotes sustainability and operational efficiency. Health facilities equipped with reliable power can better manage medical emergencies, operate diagnostic and life-saving equipment, and improve patient outcomes. In the long term, such projects contribute significantly to building resilient healthcare systems capable of serving growing urban populations effectively.

JMG Limited’s involvement underscores the importance of public-private partnerships in advancing sustainable development goals in Nigeria, particularly in the healthcare sector. By investing in renewable energy for PHCs, private organisations can directly impact public health outcomes while promoting innovative and environmentally friendly solutions. The collaboration between the state government and JMG Limited exemplifies how private sector expertise and resources can complement public initiatives to create lasting societal benefits.
With the installation of this solar power system, Ketu PHC is now better equipped to handle medical emergencies, provide consistent outpatient and inpatient services, and maintain the functionality of essential medical equipment. Patients visiting the centre can expect minimal disruption in care, while healthcare workers are empowered to perform their duties more efficiently. The project also serves as a model for other PHCs in Lagos State and across Nigeria, demonstrating how sustainable energy solutions can transform primary healthcare delivery.

The commissioning of the solar system at Ketu PHC is more than just a technical upgrade; it represents a significant step toward achieving energy-efficient, modern, and resilient healthcare infrastructure in Lagos State Health District II. The Light Up Health initiative continues to highlight the potential of innovation, strategic partnerships, and sustainability in improving public health outcomes. By ensuring uninterrupted power and enhancing healthcare service delivery, the project contributes directly to the well-being of communities in Agboyi-Ketu and sets a benchmark for future investments in primary healthcare facilities across Lagos State.
As Lagos State continues to expand the Light Up Health initiative, residents and healthcare professionals alike can look forward to a more reliable, efficient, and sustainable healthcare system. The program reflects the state government’s unwavering commitment to improving healthcare delivery, leveraging modern technology, and fostering collaboration between public institutions and private sector partners. The successful commissioning at Ketu PHC underscores the transformative impact that targeted infrastructure development, renewable energy adoption, and community engagement can have on primary healthcare, ultimately ensuring that quality healthcare services are accessible to all.
