The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening strategic collaboration with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) to enhance public sensitisation on responsible waste management.
Eko Hot News reports that the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Lagos Waste Management Authority, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, made this known during a courtesy visit to NAN’s Lagos Operations Office at the National Art Theatre, Iganmu.
Gbadegesin described the engagement as a strategic follow-up to existing collaboration, noting that credible media partnerships are vital in driving behavioural change in a growing megacity like Lagos.

He disclosed that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved the engagement of 300 Environmental Health Officers across wards to strengthen grassroots advocacy and compliance monitoring. He warned that violators of environmental laws would face sanctions.
The LAWMA boss highlighted collaboration with the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority under a Public-Private Partnership framework to deploy Compressed Natural Gas-powered waste collection trucks. The initiative aims to boost efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.

He added that the state’s waste-to-wealth initiative is progressing, with plans to replicate the biodigester model introduced at Ikosi Fruit Market in other markets to reduce landfill pressure and support a circular economy.
On service delivery, Gbadegesin revealed that 27 non-performing Private Sector Participant operators were disengaged in 2025, while 22 others are on notice to improve standards or face similar action.

He also announced plans for a strategic retreat with the Lagos State House of Assembly to review the Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017 in line with emerging waste management realities.
Earlier, Managing Editor and Acting Head of Lagos NAN Operations, Mrs Ifeyinwa Omowole, commended LAWMA for the visit and reaffirmed NAN’s commitment to sustained media support.

The engagement underscores Lagos State Government’s resolve to strengthen environmental governance through collaboration, innovation and effective public communication.
