The Lagos State Government has sustained its highway intervention efforts with an extensive clean-up operation carried out along College Road and Yaya Abatan axis, aimed at improving road safety and environmental hygiene.

Eko Hot News reports that the exercise forms part of a statewide operation being implemented across all LAWMA operational regions, covering major roads and key highways to ensure free flow of traffic and a cleaner urban environment.

Officials disclosed that LAWMA sanitation teams were deployed to the axis in the early hours, clearing accumulated refuse, removing illegal waste dumps and restoring order to the road corridor.

The intervention was designed to prevent traffic disruptions, reduce environmental health risks and enhance the overall appearance of the area, which serves as a critical link for daily commuters.

According to the Authority, similar clean-up activities are ongoing simultaneously across Lagos, targeting highways and strategic roads where indiscriminate dumping has posed challenges to safety and mobility.

The operation also aligns with the State Government’s commitment to proactive waste management and the enforcement of environmental regulations to discourage unlawful disposal of refuse.

Residents and motorists along College Road commended the initiative, noting improved road visibility, safer driving conditions and a more pleasant environment following the clean-up.

LAWMA reiterated that the highway intervention programme would be sustained, warning that enforcement actions would be taken against individuals and operators who engage in illegal dumping.
