Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of LASUBEB, Dr. Hakeem Shittu, described agriculture as a critical pillar for economic growth and a sustainable solution to food scarcity.

Dr. Shittu explained that the Agricultural Education Training Programme goes beyond classroom theory by introducing pupils to modern farming techniques, innovation, and the fundamentals of agribusiness.

According to him, the initiative is deliberately structured to shape positive mindsets toward agriculture and prepare pupils for future opportunities within the agricultural value chain.

He noted that teaching children how food is grown, processed, and distributed is an investment in future agripreneurs who will contribute meaningfully to Lagos State’s economic development. Dr. Shittu added that agriculture remains a vital sector for achieving inclusive growth and positioning Lagos as a competitive 21st-century economy.

The LASUBEB Chairman expressed appreciation to the Universal Basic Education Commission for its consistent support of the programme. He reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to sustaining and expanding the initiative to reach more public primary schools across the state in the coming years.

Also speaking at the exhibition, a member of the LASUBEB Board, Dr. Saheed Ibikunle, said the programme aligns with the Lagos State Government’s broader agenda on food sufficiency, youth empowerment, and economic diversification.

He noted that introducing agriculture at the basic education level helps build practical skills while fostering innovation among young learners.

Dr. Ibikunle added that the exhibition demonstrated the value of education-driven agriculture in boosting local food production and strengthening economic resilience.
