The Lagos State Government has reiterated its commitment to preserving Lagos history through stronger institutional support for the Lagos State Records and Archives Bureau (LASRAB). The Honourable Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, reaffirmed the government’s dedication during a courtesy visit by the management team of LASRAB to the Ministry.
Eko Hot News reports that the delegation was led by the Director-General of Lagos State Records and Archives Bureau (LASRAB), Mr. Amodu Razak, who briefed the Commissioner on the Bureau’s programmes, milestones, and strategic direction since assuming office.

Welcoming the team, Gbenga Omotoso described LASRAB’s mandate as critical to the long-term development of Lagos State. He emphasised that institutional memory remains a cornerstone of effective governance, noting that a society that neglects its past risks undermining its future.
The Commissioner urged the Bureau to accelerate its digitisation drive to safeguard official records and prevent the loss of valuable historical and administrative documents. According to him, preserving Lagos history requires modern technological solutions that ensure both accessibility and long-term protection of government archives.
He also encouraged LASRAB to deepen collaboration with public and private institutions, as well as individuals, to guarantee comprehensive documentation and preservation of Lagos State’s heritage. Strategic partnerships, he noted, will enhance record-keeping standards and expand archival coverage across sectors.
In his remarks, Director-General Amodu Razak reiterated the Bureau’s commitment to strengthening records management systems and modernising archival processes. He outlined ongoing initiatives aimed at improving documentation, storage, and retrieval systems to align with global best practices.

Also speaking during the visit, Permanent Secretary Mr. Bajulaiye Olanrewaju commended the Director-General’s dedication to sustaining and raising the agency’s standards. He stressed that records play a fundamental role in shaping identity and cultural continuity. According to him, safeguarding language, culture, and historical documentation is essential to maintaining Lagos State’s unique heritage.
The meeting underscored the shared resolve between the Ministry of Information and Strategy and LASRAB in preserving Lagos history for future generations. By prioritising digitisation, collaboration, and institutional strengthening, the Lagos State Government continues to position archival preservation as a key component of sustainable governance.
The renewed partnership signals a proactive approach to protecting the state’s documentary heritage while ensuring that historical and administrative records remain accessible and secure in the digital age.
