The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed that maintaining state-owned housing estates and promoting sustainable management practices remain a top priority to protect real estate investments and ensure long-term value.

Eko Hot News reports that the Lagos State Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, made the declaration at the two-day Annual Management Retreat of the Ministry of Housing held at the Conference Hotel, Abeokuta.

The retreat focused on the theme “Enhancing Service Delivery for Sustainable Housing Development and Management,” with emphasis on improving operational effectiveness, leadership efficiency, and performance-driven engagement among management staff.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Housing, Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, urged directors and senior management to maximise the retreat as an opportunity to gain practical insights that translate into measurable improvements in service delivery.

The Commissioner for Urban and Physical Planning in Ogun State, Tpl. Tunji Odunlami acknowledged Lagos State’s achievements in the built sector and highlighted the importance of Public-Private Partnerships and inter-state collaboration to advance housing provision.

A major session, facilitated by Mr Sam Egube, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, addressed the “Global and National Economic Outlook: Implications for Housing Industry Development and Management.”

He emphasised the critical role of the private sector and the need for an enabling environment to stimulate growth and investment.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Abdulhafis Toriola, outlined key milestones achieved by the Ministry and announced plans to commission four additional housing estates before the end of 2026.

Dr Toriola reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to providing affordable and quality housing for all Lagosians, highlighting the importance of continuous staff capacity building, innovation, and strategic planning for sustainable service delivery.

The retreat also included breakout sessions examining challenges, strategic planning, leadership, and execution, aimed at strengthening coordination, improving performance outcomes, and reinforcing sustainable housing development in Lagos State.
