The Lagos State Government has announced a comprehensive traffic advisory and diversion plan ahead of the Ajegunle City Youth Marathon scheduled to hold on Saturday, December 13, from 6:00 a.m.
Eko Hot News reports that the marathon is organised by the Society for Information and Human Advancement and is expected to attract a large number of participants and spectators, necessitating partial road closures and controlled traffic movement across affected corridors.
According to the advisory, several roads will experience temporary restrictions during the event. These include Maracana Stadium, Ojoku Street, Baale Road, Kirikiri Road, Wilmer Link Bridge, Okito Street, Kopariwo Street, Mba/Cardoso Street, Cemetery Street, Ojora Street, Baale Aiyetoro Street, Oduduwa Street, Layinka Street, Itire Street, Ojo Road, and Signal Barracks, which serves as the finishing point of the race.

The government stated that all junctions and intersections along the route from Maracana Stadium to Signal Barracks will be temporarily closed to vehicular movement. These points will be manned by officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Nigeria Police Force, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Lagos State Neighbourhood Corps to ensure order and safety.
However, the affected junctions will be opened intermittently to allow controlled vehicular movement as the race progresses, to minimise inconvenience to other road users.
To ease traffic flow, the state government has provided alternative routes. Motorists travelling from Berger and Apapa-Oshodi Expressway to Olodi Apapa via Kirikiri are advised to divert through Industrial Road, Idewu Street, Oluwa Street, Tolu Road, and Baale Road.
Traffic from Suru-Alaba heading towards Gaskiya Road and Iganmu Road will be allowed to use a contra-flow on Cemetery Road from the Techn Oil turning to the roundabout. Similarly, motorists heading to Ojo Road from Suru-Alaba are advised to divert through Charles Avenue, Ligali Street, Evie Street, Abeje Street, and link Ojo Road.
The Lagos State Government assured residents that the traffic measures are temporary and designed to ensure the safety of participants and the success of the marathon.
Motorists are urged to plan their journeys ahead of time, exercise patience, and cooperate fully with traffic officers deployed along the affected routes.
