The Lagos State Government has extended its free eye screening and healthcare services to officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Lagos Strategic Command.

Eko Hot News reports that the gesture followed the agency’s collaboration with the state during the recently concluded Drivers’ Care Initiative.

The outreach includes free eye screening, corrective lenses, and comprehensive medical checks for NDLEA officers in Lagos.

The Drivers’ Care Programme was implemented through the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transportation and Logistics.

During its first phase, professional drivers across the state received free eye tests, prescription glasses, drug screening, and safety sensitisation.

The programme was delivered in partnership with the NDLEA to promote safer roads and a responsible driving culture.

In a related intervention, the state government had earlier extended similar services to the Nigeria Police Force under the Sanwo-Olu Police Care Initiative.

About 1,000 police officers benefited from free eye screening and corrective lenses in that phase.

Speaking at the flag-off for NDLEA officers, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transportation and Logistics, Hassan Adekoya, said the extension reflects the government’s appreciation for the agency’s support.

He noted that the Drivers’ Care Programme positively impacted thousands of professional drivers statewide.

Adekoya reaffirmed the state’s commitment to residents’ welfare and urged transport unions to discourage drug use among drivers.
