The Lagos State Government has intensified efforts to strengthen accountability, professionalism, and efficiency within the Internal Audit function of the State Public Service.

Eko Hot News reports that the Special Adviser to the Governor on Internal Audit, Dr Oyeyemi Ayoola, made this known at the Quarterly General Meeting and First-Quarter Technical Session for Internal Auditors, held at the Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium, Alausa, Ikeja.

Dr Ayoola stressed the need for auditors to remain adaptable to global public sector reforms, urging them to unlearn outdated practices and embrace modern, technology-driven audit approaches

She commended the Permanent Secretary, Office of Internal Audit, Mrs Monsurat Titilope Alaka, for prioritising human capacity development and institutionalising quarterly technical engagements.

In her welcome address, Mrs Alaka charged auditors across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to deepen professionalism, strengthen internal controls, and align audit practices with evolving policies and reforms.

She explained that the quarterly technical sessions are designed to serve as platforms for engagement, reflection, and capacity building, reinforcing auditors’ roles as custodians of transparency and accountability.

According to her, the maiden technical session focused on the Year 2026 Budget of Shared Prosperity, the public procurement process, and the newly introduced Tax Reform Law.

Mrs Alaka added that continuous workshops would equip auditors with technological and innovative tools to enhance efficiency and relevance in service delivery.

One of the facilitators, the Director-General of the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency, Mr Fatai-Idowu Onafowote, delivered a paper on the role of Internal Auditors in the procurement process, highlighting compliance, transparency, and value for money.

He emphasised collaboration between auditors and procurement officers to minimise financial leakages and strengthen internal controls.

Also speaking, the Director of Budget, Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, underscored the importance of Internal Auditors in budget credibility, fiscal discipline, and monitoring expenditure patterns.

A presentation on the New Tax Reform Law was delivered by Mr Rasaq Bankole, Deputy Director, Internal Audit, outlining its implications for public sector financial management.
