The Lagos State Government has commissioned a newly renovated and upgraded Primary Health Centre in Takwa Bay, located within Iru-Victoria Island LCDA.

Eko Hot News reports that the development marks a major step toward improving healthcare access for residents in riverine communities.

Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of Health District III, Monsurat Adeleke, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that no resident is excluded from quality healthcare services. She noted that expanding access to underserved communities remains a top priority.

Adeleke explained that the upgraded facility is designed to bring essential healthcare services closer to people living in remote and riverine areas. She added that the commissioning was complemented by a comprehensive medical outreach for residents.

The outreach included screenings for hypertension and diabetes, as well as tests for syphilis, Hepatitis B, HIV, malaria, and urinalysis. Residents also benefited from dental checks, including extractions, and vision screenings with free corrective glasses.

Additional services provided during the outreach included prostate cancer screening and blindness prevention initiatives. These efforts were aimed at addressing common health concerns and improving early detection among community members.

The Permanent Secretary highlighted poor health-seeking behavior as a key challenge in the area. She encouraged residents to take full advantage of the newly available healthcare services at the facility.

She stressed that regular visits to the health centre would help improve overall well-being. Early diagnosis and timely treatment, she added, are essential for preventing complications and ensuring healthier communities.

In her keynote address, the Chairman of Iru-Victoria Island LCDA, Aminat Alabi, described the project as a strong reflection of the administration’s dedication to community welfare.

Alabi noted that the upgraded facility is equipped with modern infrastructure to support efficient healthcare delivery. She emphasized that the project aligns with the broader goal of improving public health services across the state.

She revealed that the project includes a 24-hour solar power system to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply. This feature is expected to enhance service delivery and support critical medical operations at all times.
