The Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission has initiated a strategic collaboration with the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency to enhance the handling and resolution of consumer complaints within the state’s electricity sector.
Eko Hot News reports that the engagement took place during an official visit by LASERC to LASCOPA, aimed at fostering a coordinated approach to consumer protection and service accountability in Lagos State.
Speaking during the meeting, the General Manager of LASCOPA, Afolabi Solebo, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to protecting consumer rights. He emphasized that LASCOPA remains open to partnerships with credible government institutions and organizations that align with its mandate of ensuring fairness, transparency, and accountability in service delivery across the state.

Solebo noted that the collaboration would provide an opportunity to leverage LASCOPA’s established consumer protection frameworks, particularly in complaint resolution, dispute mediation, and enforcement of consumer rights.
Representing the Chief Executive Officer of LASERC, Temitope George, the Commission’s Legal Adviser, Adetokunbo Ladega, highlighted the legal backing for such collaboration. She referenced Section 113(5) of the Lagos State Electricity Law, 2024, which empowers both agencies to develop a joint mechanism for handling consumer complaints.

According to Ladega, the partnership is expected to improve efficiency in addressing consumer grievances, reduce duplication of responsibilities, and ensure that electricity users in Lagos receive timely and effective redress.
She further disclosed that LASERC has officially licensed Excel Electricity Distribution Limited and IE Energy Lagos Limited as authorized electricity distribution service providers within the state. This development, she noted, underscores the commission’s commitment to strengthening the regulatory framework and ensuring reliable electricity services for residents.
The meeting also had in attendance key officials from both agencies, including the Consumer Affairs representative of LASERC, Mrs. Titilola Amodu, and the Board Secretary/Head of Legal at LASCOPA, Arinola Momoh-Ayokanmbi, alongside other members of the management teams.
Stakeholders at the meeting emphasized that a unified complaint-handling structure would significantly enhance consumer confidence in the electricity sector. They also noted that the collaboration aligns with broader efforts by the Lagos State Government to reform the power sector, improve service delivery, and protect the interests of consumers.

The initiative is expected to set a benchmark for inter-agency cooperation in Nigeria’s evolving electricity market, particularly at the sub-national level. With increasing private sector participation in power distribution, experts believe that robust consumer protection mechanisms will play a critical role in ensuring accountability and sustainable growth.
As discussions continue, both LASERC and LASCOPA have expressed optimism that the partnership will deliver tangible benefits to Lagos residents, reinforcing trust and improving the overall customer experience in the state’s electricity ecosystem.
