The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has issued a warning to residents and visitors to remain vigilant against exploitation as business activities intensify ahead of the December festivities.
Eko Hot News reports that the Agency raised concerns over sharp practices, inflated charges, and the circulation of substandard products, which often increase during the festive rush.
LASCOPA advised consumers to be cautious when patronising hotels, short-let apartments, supermarkets, restaurants, online vendors, banks, and other service providers across the State.

General Manager of LASCOPA, Mr Afolabi Solebo, expressed worry over recurring complaints involving accommodation providers exploiting customers through rigid “no-refund” policies.
He urged consumers to read terms and conditions carefully, verify accommodation physically or through verified images, insist on receipts, and report any service that falls below agreed expectations.
Solebo also warned against the rise of fake, expired, or repackaged products, particularly alcoholic beverages, cosmetics, children’s toys, electrical items, and food products.

Consumers were advised to check expiry dates, confirm NAFDAC registration numbers, examine packaging, and buy only from reputable vendors to avoid health risks and potential financial loss.
LASCOPA reaffirmed its commitment to consumer safety and said its enforcement teams would intensify monitoring across markets, hospitality facilities, and service points throughout the season.

The Agency warned businesses against any exploitative behaviour, stressing that violators would face sanctions in line with consumer protection laws.
