LASCON Matriculates 119 Nursing Students

The Lagos State College of Nursing (LASCON), Igando, has matriculated 119 newly admitted students for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Eko Hot News reports that the ceremony, held at the college lecture theatre in Igando, marked the fourth matriculation set for the session.

The Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mr. Tolani Sule, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Adeniran Kasali, congratulated the students on their merit-based admission.

Kasali noted that LASCON admits only candidates with passion and competence, describing their admission as a privilege.

“Many applied, many were qualified, but you were admitted,” he said, urging them to embrace technological knowledge and critical thinking.

He encouraged the students to acquire 21st-century skills, including creativity and collaboration, to remain competitive in the evolving healthcare sector.

Kasali highlighted the Lagos State Government’s continued investment in tertiary education and healthcare development.

He revealed plans toward establishing a standalone University of Medicine in the state.

The Permanent Secretary commended LASCON for maintaining a 100 per cent pass rate in professional examinations.

He urged the students to remain disciplined and focused throughout their academic training.

Provost of the College, Dr. Ayodeji Ogunmuyiwa, advised the students to uphold integrity, compassion and resilience.

She warned against immoral behaviour and assured them of the institution’s commitment to producing globally competitive nurses.

Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Olaide Edet, described nursing as a noble and life-saving profession.

Referencing the International Council of Nurses 2026 theme, she encouraged students to pursue excellence and professional values.

She disclosed that graduates would earn both Registered Nurse (RN) certification and Higher National Diploma qualifications.

Plans are also underway to secure accreditation for public health nursing programmes.

Goodwill messages were delivered by representatives of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), and the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board.

The ceremony concluded with the administration of the matriculation oath before government officials, parents and well-wishers.
