Eko Hot News reports that Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu gave the assurance at the Nigerian Navy’s 2025 Ceremonial Sunset and Awards Dinner, where he commended naval officers and ratings for their dedication and sacrifices in protecting Nigeria’s maritime domain.

The Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister ’Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, described the partnership as critical to safeguarding Lagos’ coastline, inland waterways, and expanding blue economy.

He noted that effective maritime security is essential for economic growth, investor confidence, and public safety, praising the Navy’s role in combating maritime crimes and illegal activities.

In his remarks, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, the Chief of the Naval Staff, explained that the ceremonial sunset is a historic naval tradition dating back to the 17th century.

Highlights of the event included a parade, the lowering of the national flag, and the presentation of pins and certificates to Nigerian Navy Icons, with appreciation extended to Governor Sanwo-Olu and Senator Gbenga Daniel for their support.
