The Lagos State Government has reiterated its commitment to strategic collaboration with the Nigerian Navy to strengthen maritime security and ensure a safer environment for residents, businesses, and visitors.
Eko Hot News reports that Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu gave the assurance at the Nigerian Navy’s 2025 Ceremonial Sunset and Awards Dinner, where he commended naval officers and ratings for their dedication and sacrifices in protecting Nigeria’s maritime domain.
The Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister ’Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, described the partnership as critical to safeguarding Lagos’ coastline, inland waterways, and expanding blue economy.
He noted that effective maritime security is essential for economic growth, investor confidence, and public safety, praising the Navy’s role in combating maritime crimes and illegal activities.
Governor Sanwo-Olu assured the Navy of continued state support through logistics, intelligence sharing, and strengthened inter-agency cooperation.
He congratulated officers and ratings honoured at the event and urged them to uphold integrity, discipline, and patriotism in the discharge of their duties.
The Governor reaffirmed that a secure maritime environment is vital to Lagos’ vision of a resilient and globally competitive megacity.
In his remarks, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, the Chief of the Naval Staff, explained that the ceremonial sunset is a historic naval tradition dating back to the 17th century.
Highlights of the event included a parade, the lowering of the national flag, and the presentation of pins and certificates to Nigerian Navy Icons, with appreciation extended to Governor Sanwo-Olu and Senator Gbenga Daniel for their support.
