The Head of Service, Mr Bode Agoro, has stressed the urgent need to modernise Lagos State Public Service Rules to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving administrative environment.

Eko Hot News reports that Agoro spoke at a sensitisation session on the draft Lagos State Public Service Rules (2025) held on Monday at the Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja. He noted that the 2015 Rules no longer fully address digital transformation, emerging global standards, and evolving workplace expectations.

He emphasised that the review is a comprehensive overhaul aimed at improving transparency, predictability, and professional dignity across all workforce cadres. Agoro also highlighted that labour union participation is crucial, describing unions as co-owners of the process.

The Chairman of the Public Service Rules Review Committee, Permanent Secretary Mrs. Olubusola Abidakun, stated that the draft 2025 Rules are the result of a thorough, research-driven effort. She noted that the Committee benchmarked global best practices, consulted widely, and carefully examined all chapters of the existing rules.

Abidakun added that the legitimacy of the new rules stems from the inclusive review process, and she commended the Head of Service and Committee members for their dedication.

The Lead Consultant provided an overview of proposed reforms, highlighting innovations to improve efficiency, strengthen disciplinary administration, integrate technology, and promote a more predictable work environment.

An interactive session followed, where labour representatives, directors, and other stakeholders raised questions, sought clarifications, and offered perspectives to refine the draft rules.

The event saw the participation of Committee members, including Mr. Biodun Bamgboye and Mr. Bashir Braimoh, labour leaders, and Directors from the Ministry of Establishments and Training, all affirming commitment to a modern, professional, and globally competitive public service.
