Lagos Planning Commissioner Denies Refinery Claim Lagos Planning Commissioner Denies Refinery Claim

The Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr Oluyinka Olumide, has raised concerns over the false attribution of statements linking him to claims that Lagos is set to host a second private refinery.

Eko Hot News reports that the Commissioner clarified he neither granted any interview nor issued a statement suggesting confirmed talks with investors or plans for a new refinery in the state.

Dr Olumide stated that his Ministry’s mandate is strictly limited to land-use planning, zoning control, layout approvals, and the processing of physical planning and development permits in line with existing laws.

He explained that while major infrastructure projects require planning approval and zoning compliance, investment promotion, refinery development, and sector-specific policy announcements fall outside the Ministry’s responsibilities.

The Commissioner described the media report as inaccurate, misleading and unprofessional, urging journalists to uphold accuracy and proper verification in reporting government matters.

He advised members of the public to disregard the report, stressing that all official communications from the Ministry would continue to be released through recognised and authorised channels.
