The Lagos State Government has joined the global community to commemorate the 2026 International Day of Education, themed “The Power of Youth in Co-creating Education,” reaffirming Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to sustainable education reforms.
Eko Hot News reports that the State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Jamiu Alli-Balogun, highlighted the administration’s focus on improving learning outcomes across Lagos public schools.
The Commissioner said education remains a top priority under the Sanwo-Olu administration.
He noted that government policies align with Sustainable Development Goal 4 and the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda.
According to him, Lagos is investing in quality, accessible, inclusive, and safe education statewide.
Mr Alli-Balogun said the reforms reflect comprehensive efforts to modernise public education.
He listed key initiatives, including capacity-building workshops for teachers and school administrators.
He also mentioned the construction of new classroom blocks andthe rehabilitation of existing ones.
Several ultra-modern classroom projects have been commissioned across the state.
The Commissioner described the payment of WAEC fees for students as a major relief for families.
He added that digital learning has expanded through programmes such as EKO EXCEL and Eko Learners’ Support.
Mr Alli-Balogun stated that the government has strengthened policies for students with disabilities.
He said inclusive education frameworks now support vulnerable learners across Lagos.
Scholarships and inclusion support for students with disabilities have been expanded.
The Commissioner noted that inclusive school infrastructure has been renovated and upgraded.
He explained that these efforts aim to remove learning barriers and improve access.
On school safety, he said the government has implemented child protection policies.
Safeguarding training and advocacy against abuse and violence have been intensified.
Schools now conduct regular safety awareness programmes and fire drills.
Laboratory safety regulations are also being strictly enforced.
Mr Alli-Balogun noted that a unified academic calendar has improved planning and safety monitoring.
He said Lagos schools are fostering a culture that prioritises learner protection and well-being.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to sustainable education reforms.
He assured that policies will continue to improve learning outcomes statewide.
