Lagos Hosts Media Roundtable on Participatory Governance

The Lagos State Government has convened a strategic Breakfast Roundtable with media stakeholders to deepen participatory governance and strengthen collaboration.

Eko Hot News reports that the engagement was organised by the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement and held at the Eko Hotel and Suites under the theme “Where Headlines Begin.”

The interactive session brought together editors, broadcasters, filmmakers, digital creators and senior government officials for dialogue on media, governance and civic storytelling.

Delivering the keynote address, Special Adviser to the Governor, Afolabi Abiodun Tajudeen, said the administration of Babajide Sanwo-Olu recognises the media as indispensable partners in governance.

He stressed that accurate reporting and constructive engagement are essential to transparency, public trust and inclusive governance.

Tajudeen highlighted key initiatives of the Office, including the Eko Cares Financial Assistance Programme, MICHD Programme and the Lagos CitizensGate digital feedback platform, designed to promote social inclusion and citizen-responsive governance.

Permanent Secretary, Engr. Sholabomi Shasore described the roundtable as a deliberate effort to close the gap between government and citizens through structured engagement rather than episodic communication.

She clarified that the government seeks informed and constructive voices, encouraging media professionals to raise critical questions and provide audience feedback.

Responding to concerns on infrastructure, law enforcement and inclusivity, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotosho, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to non-discrimination and equitable development.

He emphasised that policies are designed to cater to all residents, adding that balanced reportage and civic responsibility are key to building a smart and sustainable Lagos.

Chairman of the Nigeria Reputation Management Group, Mr Yomi Badejo-Okusanya, and CEO of Megalectrics Limited, Mr Chris Ubosi, called for shared ownership of Lagos’ development narrative and sustained investment in media capacity building.

The roundtable concluded with a renewed commitment to open dialogue and collaborative storytelling that reflects a fair, inclusive and forward-looking Lagos.
