The Lagos State Primary Health Care Board (LSPHCB) has begun a statewide advocacy and sensitisation drive to promote the 2026 Measles–Rubella (MR) vaccination campaign.

Eko Hot News reports that the campaign commenced with a mega awareness walk held in Ikeja, following the official flag-off of the MR vaccine introduction earlier in the week.

The advocacy walk started from the Lagos State Secretariat, Alausa, and moved through Obafemi Awolowo Way to Allen Roundabout before returning to the Secretariat.

The exercise was organised to educate the public on the importance of immunising children aged nine months to 14 years against measles and rubella.

Participants also used the walk to raise awareness on the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine for girls aged nine years and above.

The walk was led by the Permanent Secretary of LSPHCB, Dr Ibrahim Akinwunmi Mustafa, mni.

He was joined by directors of the Board, officials of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), and key health partners.

Development partners in attendance included UNICEF, the World Health Organisation (WHO), AFENET, and other stakeholders.

Health officials described the advocacy walk as a critical step in mobilising public support ahead of the full vaccination rollout.

They noted that early awareness is essential to achieving high vaccine uptake across communities.

The sensitisation drive targets parents, caregivers, and community leaders across the state.

Officials stressed that measles and rubella remain preventable diseases through timely immunisation.
