The Lagos State Government has commenced medical screening for all intending pilgrims from across the state ahead of the 2026 Holy pilgrimage to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Eko Hot News reports that the exercise was announced by the Secretary of the Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Mr AbdulHakeem Ajomagberin.

Ajomagberin disclosed that the medical screening is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, and will run until Saturday, January 24, 2026, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

He explained that the screening will take place across 10 designated centres in the state, under the supervision of a medical team led by Dr Mazeedat Erinosho.

According to him, Local Government Areas have been grouped into specific screening locations to ensure easy access and smooth coordination for intending pilgrims.

Designated centres include Agege, Ikeja, Mushin, Ibeju-Lekki, Badagry, Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Surulere, Ikorodu, Alimosho, and LASUTH Ikeja for government officials.

The Board Secretary stressed that attendance at the medical screening is mandatory, warning that any intending pilgrim who fails to participate will not be granted an entry visa by the Saudi Embassy.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has appointed Local Government Schedule Officers to coordinate and cater for pilgrims’ welfare both in Nigeria and Saudi Arabia.

Ajomagberin noted that the appointments were approved by the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Hon. Olanrewaju Ibrahim Layode, during a meeting held at the Secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja.

He added that the Special Adviser to the Governor on Islamic Matters, Hon. Ahmad Abdullahi Jebe, was also present at the meeting.

The Board urged all appointed officers to discharge their duties with dedication, assuring that the state government remains committed to providing a safe, conducive, and well-coordinated pilgrimage experience.
