The Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy has reaffirmed its drive to strengthen government communication with a Training Needs Assessment visit to the Public Affairs Department of the National Population Commission, Lagos State.

Eko Hot News reports that the assessment, held on Thursday, January 8, 2026, was led by the Director of Social Media, Dr. Olajide Atansuyi, following the directive of the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Olanrewaju Bajulaiye, to identify skill gaps and improve public sector communication effectiveness.

The visit focused on evaluating current communication practices and designing targeted capacity-building programmes to enhance how the Commission engages the public on population-related issues.

Welcoming the team, the Lagos State Director of the National Population Commission, Mrs. Olamide Adekolu, described the initiative as timely, noting that effective communication is critical to promoting public trust in population data, birth and death registration, and demographic planning.

He disclosed that the assessment revealed strong performance in traditional media relations but highlighted urgent needs in digital communication, including social media strategy, content creation, video production, crisis communication, and the use of artificial intelligence tools.

The Ministry recommended immediate inclusion of the identified needs in upcoming training programmes, noting that improved communication will enhance NPC’s visibility, public understanding, and confidence in official population data.
