The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), also known as KAI, has called on residents to adopt proper environmental practices during and after the Easter celebration.

Eko Hot News reports that the advisory was contained in a statement issued by the Corps Marshal, Olaniyi Olatunbosun Cole. He emphasized the importance of maintaining sanitation standards, especially during festive periods when waste generation typically increases.

Cole noted that Easter holds deep significance for Christians worldwide, marking the resurrection of Jesus Christ. He stressed that while residents celebrate, they should also remain mindful of their responsibility to protect the environment through proper conduct.

He encouraged Lagosians to practice proper waste disposal at all times. Residents were urged to avoid actions such as open defecation and indiscriminate waste dumping, which can harm public health and degrade the environment.

The Corps Marshal also highlighted the need for households and businesses to maintain valid waste collection arrangements. He advised residents to ensure they are registered with approved Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators for regular refuse collection.

Cole warned that failure to comply with waste management regulations could attract penalties under existing environmental laws. He urged residents to take proactive steps in keeping their surroundings clean and hygienic.

Addressing traders, the LAGESC boss cautioned against displaying goods on road setbacks, medians, and sidewalks. He explained that such practices contribute to traffic congestion and obstruct pedestrian movement across the city.

He further advised traders to operate within designated spaces to ensure orderliness. Compliance with these guidelines, he said, will enhance safety and improve the overall urban experience in Lagos.

Residents were also reminded to participate in the reintroduced monthly environmental sanitation exercise. The initiative is designed to encourage community involvement in maintaining a cleaner environment across neighborhoods.

Cole stressed that voluntary participation in sanitation exercises demonstrates civic responsibility. It also supports government efforts aimed at sustaining environmental cleanliness in the state.

In addition, the Corps Marshal urged residents and visitors to prioritize safety when navigating busy roads. He encouraged the use of pedestrian bridges when crossing highways to reduce risks and promote orderly movement.

The advisory extended to individuals transiting through Lagos during the festive period. Visitors were encouraged to adhere to local environmental and safety guidelines to ensure a pleasant experience.

LAGESC reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing environmental laws and promoting sustainable practices. The agency continues to engage residents through awareness campaigns and community outreach initiatives.

The Easter period, according to the agency, presents an opportunity for residents to reflect not only on faith but also on responsible living. Maintaining a clean environment is essential for public health and urban sustainability.

The call by LAGESC underscores the shared responsibility between government and citizens. By adopting simple practices, residents can contribute significantly to a cleaner and more organized Lagos.
