Kenya’s Ezra Kipchumba Kering has emerged champion of the 2026 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, crossing the finish line in 2:11:55 at Eko Atlantic City, Victoria Island.
Eko Hot News reports that the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, led top dignitaries to receive runners at the finish line. The prestigious race attracted elite athletes from across the globe.

The Gold Label marathon, now in its 11th edition, commenced at Orcal Shopping Mall, Ahmadu Bello Way, and terminated at Eko Atlantic City. The event has received backing from the Athletics Federation of Nigeria and World Athletics for an upgrade to Platinum status.
Although Kipchumba did not break the course record in the 42km race, he displayed remarkable resilience and focus to clinch victory. The streets of Lagos were filled with enthusiastic spectators and runners.

In the women’s category, Ethiopia’s Meseret Dinke finished first with a time of 2:37:35. In the Nigerian elite category, Boyi Nyango secured ₦2,000,000 after finishing in 2:25:32.
This year’s full marathon featured a slightly adjusted route, showcasing Lagos’ coastline and iconic landmarks. The event reinforced the state’s reputation for hosting world-class sporting competitions.

Lagos has consistently provided strong institutional support for the marathon, which previously earned World Athletics Bronze and Silver Labels. The seamless organisation reflects the state’s growing influence in global road racing.
Top government officials and sports administrators attended the event, underscoring Lagos State’s commitment to sports development and international competitiveness.
