The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Abdullahi Olowa, has emphasised the importance of investing in women as a pathway to strengthening communities and promoting sustainable development.
Eko Hot News reports that the council chairman made the remarks during an event marking International Women’s Day held at the Honeywell Auditorium.
The programme was themed “Raising Women, Raising Communities: The Give to Gain Mandate.”
The event brought together community leaders, educators and participants who gathered to celebrate the contributions of women to social and economic development.
Hon. Olowa attended the programme alongside the Supervisor for Education, Sodiq Agbaje.
Also present was the Supervisor for Environment, Ogungbo Temitope Sofwan.
Addressing the audience, Olowa expressed appreciation to the organisers for hosting an engaging and impactful programme.

He noted that the discussions provided valuable insights on how communities can support women and encourage their growth.
The chairman highlighted some of the achievements of his administration in advancing women empowerment and educational opportunities.
According to him, the local government has partnered with Pan-Atlantic University to support academic advancement among residents.
He explained that the collaboration has produced more than 500 tutorial beneficiaries through structured academic support programmes.
Out of the beneficiaries, over 250 students have successfully secured admission into higher institutions.
Olowa emphasised that empowering women contributes significantly to the development of families and communities.
He described women as a powerful force that multiplies every investment made in them.

According to the chairman, women play an essential role in shaping communities and sustaining social progress.
He reiterated the commitment of his administration to inclusive governance and community development initiatives.
Olowa also stressed that programmes focused on education and empowerment remain key priorities of the local government.
He explained that strengthening women’s participation in development efforts benefits society as a whole.
A major highlight of the programme was a lecture delivered by Abolaji Osime, Chief Executive Officer of Global International Secondary and College.
In her presentation, Osime described women as architects who shape and sustain the cultural and structural foundation of communities.

She explained that women do not simply occupy positions within society but actively define and influence social progress.
According to her, investing in women often produces significant social and economic returns for communities.
Osime encouraged individuals, organisations and governments to prioritise initiatives that support women’s advancement.
The event also featured an engaging question-and-answer session with participants.
During the session, Hon. Olowa responded to questions relating to participatory governance and community development.
He also discussed strategies aimed at strengthening grassroots initiatives within Ibeju-Lekki.

Participants welcomed the opportunity to interact directly with local government officials and share ideas on development programmes.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Nsima Aladi.
