The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has unveiled comprehensive strategies aimed at strengthening electoral integrity and ensuring the successful conduct of the 2027 General Elections.
Eko Hot News reports that the strategies were presented at INEC’s Induction and Strategic Retreat held at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos State, with a strong focus on voter revalidation and the integrity of the National Register of Voters.
Speaking during a session on voter registration, the Director of Voter Registry, Mr. Olatunde Gafar, reaffirmed INEC’s constitutional responsibility to register eligible Nigerian citizens and to continuously update the voter register in line with existing laws.

Gafar explained that the Commission has consistently complied with these legal requirements through Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercises and periodic clean-up of the voter register across the country.
He, however, acknowledged that challenges persist in producing a fully credible voter register that is completely free of ineligible persons, including deceased individuals and duplicate records.

According to him, addressing these challenges requires stronger data integration, improved deployment of technology, and deeper collaboration with relevant government agencies involved in identity management and civil registration.
The INEC official stressed that effective inter-agency cooperation would enhance the credibility of the voter register and boost public confidence in the electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He added that the Commission remains committed to reforms that will improve transparency, efficiency, and trust in Nigeria’s electoral system.
The session was moderated by National Commissioner, Dr. Ken Ukeagu, who highlighted the importance of strategic planning and institutional learning in strengthening INEC’s operational capacity.

Participants at the retreat include National Commissioners, Resident Electoral Commissioners, and senior management staff of the Commission, all focused on aligning strategies for future elections.
INEC said outcomes from the retreat will guide policy decisions and operational planning as preparations for the 2027 polls intensify nationwide.
