The Executive Chairman of Bariga Local Council, Hon. Adedeji Bukola Omope, FCPA, has engaged market leaders and officials of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) to strengthen cleanliness across markets in the area.
Eko Hot News reports that the strategic meeting was held at the Chairman’s Bawala office with officials of LAWMA’s Market Waste Section, led by Mrs Apena, alongside leaders of Bariga markets.
The engagement was convened to consolidate progress already recorded in the evacuation of indiscriminately dumped refuse within the council area.

Hon. Adedeji reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to delivering a cleaner and healthier Bariga Local Council.
She stressed the need to sustain cleanliness across all seven markets in Bariga to protect public health and improve the trading environment.

The Chairman charged the LAWMA team to work closely with market leaders to ensure consistent waste evacuation and hygienic market conditions.
She also urged market leaders to sensitise traders on the prompt payment of monthly LAWMA sanitation bills.

Hon. Adedeji warned against indiscriminate waste disposal, especially in unauthorised locations within the council.
She noted that collective responsibility remains key to achieving sustainable cleanliness in Bariga markets.

Also speaking, the Head of Department, Environment, Bariga Local Council, Mr Olufemi Oladapo, aligned with the Chairman’s position.
He reaffirmed the council’s determination to maintain environmental cleanliness across the local government.

Mr Oladapo said the council would continue to collaborate with LAWMA to enforce sanitation standards.
